“Receive the Power” is the name of the Hymn of the XXIII World Youth Day of Sidney 2008. The Australian organising committee has chosen a piece by the Australian singer/songwriter Guy Sebastian. This was reported by the international agency Fides which also published the words of the coordinator of the WYD 2008, mgr. Anthony Fisher: “We were looking for a song that could be gripping and above all inspiring, that could thrill the young and capture the meaning of the theme of the WYD: you will receive strength from the Holy Spirit that will come down onto you and you will be my witnesses. Guy’s song perfectly fits the bill: to inspire young people from all over the world to accept Jesus’ challenge to follow Him to the boundaries of the world and be His witnesses”. The song, which was selected out of 120 songs, "fulfils the requirements of both the music and the theme, as well as being easy to sing in any language. We are sure it will be played and sung by the young Catholics of all countries during the Day”, states the Bishop. Guy Sebastian is a very well known artist in Australia; in 2005 he was appointed World Vision Ambassador and went to Uganda for a documentary on the problems of the local population due to poverty and civil war.
