HOLY SEE: MGR. TOMASI (UN OBSERVER), THE SCANDAL OF MILLIONS OF CHILDREN "DYING FROM CURABLE DISEASES"

"Anthropological respect of the human being in its entirety, going beyond the absence of disease to aim at a full harmony and veritable balance between the physical, emotional, spiritual and social forces of the human being": this is the position of the Holy See, as voiced by mgr. Silvano M. Tomasi at the 60th World Health Meeting which is under way in Geneva until May 23rd. "A large part of the health threats caused by these diseases could be appropriately tackled if the global human family committed itself to accessible, proactive research, vaccination and treatment schemes, as well as at a preventative education, respectful of the natural moral law", stated Tomasi with reference to tuberculosis, malaria, HIV. Tomasi spoke of the massacre of "10.5 million children under 5 years of age": "many of these children die from curable diseases", for which, however, "pediatric doses and drugs have not been established yet". A particularly urgent problem, this one, in the case of Hiv/Aisds, in which "only 15% of Hiv-positive children who need antiretroviral treatment actually have access to these life-saving therapies".
