This need, goes on the Bishops’ release, "should be reflected in the referendum for a future intergovernmental conference, which will probably take place in the second half of 2007", in order to "bring the EU out of the institutional crisis that followed the referendums in France and the Netherlands". In addition, Comece informs that a meeting has also been planned with Roger Liddle, member of the European Policy Councillors’ office, who drew up, at the request of the EU Commission, the document called "The social reality of Europe" and invited the Church to play a proactive part in the discussions on the future of European society. In the next few months, Comece has planned to make its contribution to the referendum opened by this new document, focussing in particular on the role of the Churches in social life, the promotion of the family, justice in the work world.
