SARKOZY: "FRANCE IS BACK IN EUROPE"

"The French people have decided to break with the habits of the past; to these people, I want to give back their pride. I will do with in a spirit of union and fraternity in which everyone will feel recognised in their dignity as citizens and as men". Nicholas Sarkozy, the nominee for the Ump, is the new president of the Republic of France. He won with 53.28% of votes, versus 46.72% of the Socialist nominee Ségolène Royal. Record-breaking turn-up all over the country yesterday, where 84.80% of voters went to the polls. After publishing the official figures, the new president made a short speech to his supporters, insisting on the international placement of France, next to the EU, the United States and with an eye on the Mediterranean. Sarkozy added: "I wish to make an appeal to the European allies; from tonight France is back in Europe".
