"The young tend to share a positive image of the European Union and its future". Many of them "associate the EU with the concept of travelling, studying and working abroad" and link such opportunities to the idea of European citizenship. In the run-up to the opening of the European Youth Week 2007 (3-10 June), the EU Commission has published a survey by Eurobarometro: they interviewed 19 thousand people aged 15 to 30 from the 27 member states. The young answered questions about the Community, the feeling of citizenship, education, work and financial independence. According to Eurobarometro, "33% of the interviewees would accept any job, provided it fulfilled some requirements, such as stability and a good salary, while just one out of ten would accept any job unconditionally". Ján Figel, Commissioner for Education, Culture and Youth, stated: "The Executive fulfils the pledge undertaken at the Rome Summit of consulting the young on the subjects that concern them most". "Therefore, in Brussels", next week, "we will tackle problems related to social inclusion and diversity".
