"As university lecturers went on Dalla Torre , we feel fully responsible for keeping alive and thriving the heritage of ideal values that are the source of the pro-European process and that are rooted in the great Christian tradition, that for two millennia has marked not only the religious life but also, broadly, the culture of this continent". For the future, the rector of Lumsa outlined three spheres of effective commitment. "The first one he explained pertains to the field of research. We must acknowledge that the four large theme areas that we have discussed over these days (the human person, the city of man, the view of science, creativity and memory, editor’s note) can and must be further investigated by each country, building on the network of personal and institutional relations that we have woven over the years". The second sphere of commitment "pertains to teaching, and more generally to education". In this respect, the themes of the four areas can be conducive to "the establishment of workshops, specialisation courses, postgraduate courses and PhDs, promoted by the Universities of the European countries". The third one is "communicating what we are investigating to the public opinion and society of our countries and of Europe". Finally, we must not forget that 2008 will be the year of intercultural dialogue.
