SIR EUROPE: SPIDLA (COMMISSION), "FLEXISECURITY TO MATCH COMPETITIVENESS WITH EMPLOYMENT"

"There is no single solution meeting everyone’s needs": the Commission proposes the EU States eight common principles of "flexisecurity", that is, "a global employment market policy strategy matching sufficient flexibility in contractual provisions with employees’ security to keep their jobs or to be able find new ones in a short time", as well as "the guarantee of an adequate income in the periods of transition between two jobs". At the same time, the Executive acknowledges that the different economic, juridical and social situations in the 27 member States require "adaptation ability" for the proposals submitted today. The open goal of "flexisecurity" is "promoting competitiveness, employment and work satisfaction", by matching the interests of employees and enterprises". Vladimír Spidla, EU employment commissioner, said: "Flexisecurity is the best way to make sure European citizens enjoy a high level of employment security, so as to be able to find a job at any stage of their active lives, hoping for a positive development of their careers within a rapidly changing economic context".
