SIREUROPA: COUNCIL OF EUROPE, MEETING ON INCLUSION OF YOUNG MIGRANTS

Over two hundred young European leaders will meet in Puglia from 6th to 10th June for the event “Cultures and Human Rights of the Mediterranean Area” and to discuss social inclusion of young migrants. The event is part of the Council of Europe (Coe) “All Different – All Equal” campaign, based on the principles of diversity, human rights and participation. It will open on June 6th in Monopoli and will include the unveiling of the "Mediterranean Village", with music shows, exhibitions, a food festival and sports events, followed by a football game with a Special Olympics team. Debates will focus on the role of youth organisations and policies in the process of integration of young migrants. On June 9th the “World Aware Education Award” will be given to three youth organisations that have stood out for having tackled in the best possible way the problems of the participation of young people from minority groups in the life of the community. According to René Weingärtner, director of the Sports and Youth Department at the CoE, "the Mediterranean region is a place of intensive cultural and trade exchanges; it is a frontier that divides but also a bridge that bonds Europe, Asia and Africa together and that helps redefine the European identity".
