MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT FORUM: BAN KI-MOON (UNO) "IT IS NOT JUST RICHNESS AND POVERTY" (2)

Results can be reached, according to Ban Ki-Moon, "neither through great pronouncements, nor with the creation of new and elaborate structures". The purpose of the Forum is actually "elaborating a sketch to manage international migratory flows", he pointed out. "We are living in an era of mobility, in which more and more people are moving in the world with growing frequency", he added. "It is a global phenomenon rejecting the easy categorizations of the past" and which today concerns everyone, with unique peculiarities with respect to the past. These are the tasks depicted for the works of the Forum: "understanding what we can do as policymakers, with the aim of maximizing the benefits of migration for development, making sure at the same time, that development implies a better migration from the quality point of view; learning from each other, in a systematic and complete way; resting on the experience matured on a regional, national and local level". "At this first stage of international cooperation on migration and development, we are trying to build trust among the States. Therefore, we should concentrate on the political actions which may be useful for all the protagonists in the migratory system, but above all, for emigrants, their families and their communities", he underlined.
