SIR EUROPE: NEW FUNDS TO ERASMUS MUNDUS. STUDENTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD IN THE EU UNIVERSITIES (2)

"Erasmus Mundus – adds commissioner Figel’ – has made an important contribution to the modernisation of the EU universities in a scenario of globalisation of advanced education. Now we have to consolidate the encouraging results that have been achieved by the current program, but we also have to make one further step and extend the range of the program so that Erasmus Mundus will become a tangible sign of cooperation between the EU and the third countries in the sphere of advanced education". The new approach will be translated "into a wide range of new activities, including joint postgraduate programs, more financial support to European students as well as cooperation partnerships with some regions of the world that will fully benefit the students". The program for the next few years will cover in particular: "support to joint programs of academic excellence at master’s and postgraduate level"; "promotion of partnerships between EU and non-EU universities for the transfer of know-how, exchanges and mobility at all levels of advanced education", extension of Erasmus Mundus to postgraduate students and partly to pre-graduation levels; "more financial support to European students through more attractive scholarships".
