An appeal to the representatives of all Christian churches which are gathering in Sibiu (4-9 September) "to declare atomic war a taboo, a sin, and a crime against mankind: as such, it is absolutely unjustifiable". "Not only the use, but also manufacturing, proliferation and simple possession of nuclear weapons are to be condemned". The appeal was promoted by IFOR (International Fellowship of Reconciliation), by Beati i Costruttori di Pace, Cipax, Pax Christi and some more pacifist associations. It will be made during the prayer and testimony meeting taking place in Vicenza on August 5th and 6th, for the 62nd anniversary of the first atomic massacre in Hiroshima. Single individuals, associations, ecclesial groups and groups of other religions will be invited to Vicenza. Among other things, there will be a prayer wake, shows and moments of silence and memory for the victims of nuclear power. "The presence in our continent of a remarkable quantity of nuclear weapons it is written in the appeal, is worrying us in a special way. Though much more powerful than the ones exploded in Japan at the end of the Second World War (from the destruction point of view), they are tacitly accepted by the institutions ruling the living together of our peoples, which are hiding both their huge destructive power and the uselessness of possession power". ” ” ” “
