The mass media too play a key role in this, recalled Benedict XVI. The evangelisation of culture, however, is a mission which mostly falls on the lay people, who need therefore "adequate religious training". The lay people also have to "promote the human and Christian values" in order to enlighten "the political, economic and cultural realities of the country", in order "to establish a fairer, more equal social order, in agreement with the Social Doctrine of the Church". At the same time, consistently with the ethical and moral rules, they must give "proof of honesty and transparency in the management of the public activities, vis-à-vis the surreptitious, widespread plague of corruption, which sometimes affects the areas of political and economic power as well the public and social spheres". The lay people concluded the Pope must be the ferment of society, by working in public life to enlighten, with the values of the Gospel, the different spheres in which the identity of the people takes shape" and doing all they can for "the consistency of their life and faith to be a telling proof of the truth of the Christian message".
