PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS: A RALLY IN ROME, "RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, THE FOUNDATION OF ALL RIGHTS" (2)

A situation, that of Christians, which is difficult in the Middle East and in other countries as well, such as Cuba, China, Pakistan, as many a witness mentioned on stage. Others recalled that "Islamic extremism, which persecutes Christians, is also relentless with its own children, who rebel against the abuse". Everyone also agreed on saying that "this situation cannot be overlooked", and action must be taken "before it’s too late". In closing the rally, the promoter of the event, Magdi Allam, explained: "We are gathered here as people of good will, who, beyond their own religion and nationality, feel bonded by the imperative of asserting and defending the right to religious freedom for everyone and everywhere in the world". A rally, the one of last night, which according to Allam meant, for the people taking part in it, "redeeming themselves, their own values and their own identity, which are betrayed and violated by the spreading of cultural and religious relativism". Thus, the fight for the freedom of Christians in the Middle East amounts "to the fight to regain our dignity and our freedom, which have been annihilated by the spreading of relativism in the sphere of values, of knowledge, of culture, of religion and politics". So, he concluded, "we cannot help saying ‘We are all Christians’".
