” “Replacing the experiments that are going on in Germany with "a regular teaching of the Islamic religion in German": this is the intention voiced by Siegfried Schneider, the Bavarian Minister of Education. The issue is dealt with in an article by Harry Harun Behr, professor of didactics of the Islamic religion at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, published on the June issue of the Herder Korrespondenz and commented in the "Rassegna delle idee" in the latest issue of Sir Europa. According to Behr, "the teaching of the Islamic religion is to be placed at the intersection of two areas that are protected by the Constitution: teaching" on one side, and "religion" on the other side, and must be based "on a teaching methodology that can effectively boost positive integration and make the students immune" against the risk of ideological dogmatisms. In other words, the teaching of the Islamic religion "from the perspective of prevention" and its "substantial social role". To do this, states the teacher, "the state must guarantee that it will be implemented as a regular subject" and in German. "The students too must speak German", thus stepping beyond "the linguistic, cultural and religious borders". The teachers must be "of Islamic religion, but must have attended a German university".
