SIDNEY 2008 WYD: 300 BISHOPS FOR THE CATECHESES WITH ENTERTAINMENT BY HUNDREDS OF YOUNG MUSICIANS, SINGERS AND BANDS. REGISTRATIONS STARTING TODAY

Registrations for young people wanting to help in the catecheses of the next World Youth Day, due in Sidney from July 15th to 20th 2008, will open today. The Organising Committee is looking for entertainers, coordinators, musicians, bands, singers and readers to be divided into groups to assist the over 300 bishops who will hold the catecheses for three mornings on end during the WYD Week. “The purpose of the catechesis is to guide the pilgrims in taking the steps required to respond to Christ", states Steve Lawrence, director of the Evangelisation and Catechesis Department of the WYD. “We are looking for 300 groups of entertainers, of at least 6 members each, who will help us coordinate the three main parts of the catechesis: preparation, teaching and Mass”. As reported by the Organising Committee, the majority of the catecheses will be held in English, but other languages, mostly Italian, Spanish and French, will be used. Registrations are open to young Catholics from every country; to register, visit www.wyd2008.org/catechesis. ” “
