BENEDICT XVI AT ANGELUS: "MORE COOPERATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CREATION"

After the Angelus prayer, yesterday morning, Benedict XVI made an appeal about the environment: "Today – he said – is the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the ‘Montreal Protocol’ about the substances that deplete the ozone layer, thus causing serious damage to human beings and the ecosystem". Over the last two decades, he went on, "through an exemplary cooperation within the international community between politics, science and economy, important results have been delivered which have had positive repercussions on the present and future generations". Hence the wish that "everyone will increase cooperation in order to promote the common good, the development and protection of creation, strengthening the alliance between man and the environment, which must be the mirror of the creative love of God, from whom we come and to whom we walk". Finally, in his greetings in different languages, he spoke in German to the members of the "Help to the suffering Church" association, who had come to Castel Gandolfo for the 60th anniversary of their foundation. In Italian, he sent a special greeting to the prior general and to the brethrens of the Order of Saint Augustine, who are celebrating their general chapter these days.
