SIR EUROPA: ITALY (PRESIDENT CEI), WITH THE POPE IN LORETO "A PROMISING START OF THE YEAR"

"For us and our communities, there couldn’t have been a more exciting and more promising start of the year than that of Loreto. In the numbers and quality of the participants, that meeting really exceeded all expectations": it was said this evening by mgr. Angelo Bagnasco, president of the Italian Bishops Conference, as he opened with his address in Rome, at the premises of Cei, (Italian Bishops Conference), the meeting of the Permanent Bishops Council (which will continue until 19th September). Still about the meeting of the Pope with the youth in the valley of Montorso, he highlighted that "in the number and quality of participants, the meeting really exceeded all expectations. Evidence of the fact the young know how to be the real players of the surprise that God is in our lives. Then, when the young join the Pope, it is as if their potentials were, sort of, enhanced". Then, with reference to the contents of the conversation between Benedict XVI and the young during Saturday’s vigil, he added that "our Youth Pastoral now will not fail to propose (them) again, appropriately, making them the cornerstones of a well-reasoned catechesis. It is important that the young be helped make the Pope’s proposal their own, and this will be a way to make the Loreto experience their own as well". (continued)
