SIDNEY 2008: 300 BEFORE THE START, 204 THOUSAND PEOPLE ALREADY REGISTERED

204 thousand registrations for the World Youth Day (WYD) which will be hosted by Sidney from 15th to 20th July 2008. This updated figure has been announced by the WYD Organisers, the head of which, Danny Casey, stated that "this is an exceptional figure. Over 63 thousand registrations from young Australians, while the others come from young foreigners". The latter figure "largely exceeds the expectations of about 125 thousand foreign participants". This special list of registrations is headed by Australia with 63,398, followed by the USA (37,630), Italy (18,908), Germany (9,657) and New Zealand (8,002). In the meantime, preparations go on incessantly: "with the help of the Government and the Federal State – explains Casey –, we are well ahead in the catering for the pilgrims, the accommodation and the schedule of events". Over the last few days, the names of the TVs that will broadcast the WYD have been announced. They are Sky news, Img media and Sbs. The latter, as well broadcasting daily specials about the WYD, will broadcast the opening Mass with card. Pell, the arrival of Benedict XVI and the final Mass. Sky news will open a dedicated digital channel for the WYD to inform the over 2.5 million of Australian subscribers.
