SIR EUROPE: PRAGUE, THE ECUMENICAL MEETING OF BISHOPS WHO ARE FRIENDS OF FOCOLARI OPENS TODAY

"My night has no darkness: for the culture of resurrection". It is the subject of the 26th international ecumenical meeting of bishops in friendly relationship with the Focolari Movement, opening in Prague today (until September 27th). Archbishop Cardinal Miloslav Vlk is welcoming forty bishops of eighteen nationalities and with different faiths. Every year, the meeting has taken place in various European cities. 40 Orthodox, Syrian-Orthodox, Anglican, Evangelical-Lutheran, Methodist and Catholic bishops are present. "They share the conviction – said the organizers – that a communion spirituality is decisive for the ecumenical cause, and for the progress of faith in the current 21st century". In the capital of the Czech Republic, on 23 September, "National Ecumenical Sunday", the participants are meeting with personalities from the religious and civil world. The meeting, added the Focolari, "is an invitation to face facts, the symptoms of cultural and collective darkness marking the majority of humanity. And they don’t spare believers. However, it is also an invitation to see the numerous signs of hope and life. Among them, there are the recent European ecumenical events taking place in Sibiu (Romania), in this very month of September, and in Stuttgart (Germany), last May".
