SIR EUROPE: THE FUTURE OF DANZIG DOCKS AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION UNDER DISCUSSION AT EU PARLIAMENT

The proposed closing down, or at least the retrenchment of Danzig Docks in Poland and the subject of immigration to the European Union are some of the main topics currently under discussion at the European Parliament, together with the works of the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) for drawing up the Reform Treaty of the Union. On 27th, next week (24 to 27 September), a new plenary session of the Assembly in Strasbourg is taking place, and those subjects will part of the agenda, together with the "proposal for regulating the Parliament and the Council instituting the European Technology Institute". As for migrations, they will talk about the continuous disembarkations on the Southern coasts of the Continent, as well as the role played by Frontex Agency in controlling external borders. On the other hand, the subject "Towards a Common European Energy Policy" will be entrusted to the report of Polish MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski. In the meantime, there are the first reactions to the "third energy block", made known by the Commission yesterday, which is meant to introduce the so-called "unbundling" into European legislation (within 2009). It is separation of the activities of production and distribution of electric energy and gas. A few governments of member States and big companies operating on international level said to be against it.
