SIR EUROPA: "VOICES FROM ABANDONMENT", INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ABANDONED CHILDREN

"Explaining the level of transformation, especially cultural transformation, that exists in children’s services in the countries that have recently joined the EU and the difficulties that still exist in the other nations". This is the main goal of the International Conference planned in Sofia (Bulgaria) on Wednesday, 26 September, about: "Voices from abandonment". The meeting, promoted by the association Amici dei Bambini (Ai.bi.), will illustrate for the very first time the results of studies and surveys on the quality standards of the child protection systems of the five countries – Italy, France, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia – which have participated in the project co-funded by the EU, called "Social inclusion for out of family children and young people in public child care". "Even if there exist laws that provide for that – says Monica Barbarotto, who ran the project for Aibi –, culturally and as a society, national and international adoption is not included as systems for the protection of abandoned children". As part of the project, Ai.Bi. has developed a dedicated website – www.childout.org –, where the official results of the surveys will be published.
