Energy security "must be viewed as a key component of the global security of the European Union" as well as "a key factor for continuing the economic and social development of Europe". The Polish MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski is the author of a report on the creation of a common foreign policy on energy, which has been submitted today to the Strasbourg Parliament. Once again, the European Parliament addresses the issue that for months has been high on the agenda of the EU institutions. The document that will be the focus of the Parliament’s discussion asks that a High Representative be appointed for such issue and urges "a diversification of energy sources and suppliers" and "greater development of renewable energies". In addition, the report speaks again of "stronger cooperation with the main producer countries, intermediate countries and consumer countries, especially in the Mediterranean and the Caspian Sea", to guarantee adequate provisions to the countries concerned. Then the agenda includes a debate, which should be followed by a resolution, on toy imports and safety, especially toys made in China. A release from the Assembly explains that in the early 2008 the European Parliament is expected to pass three bills of law on this matter.
