"In the run-up to the reopening of the schools, which will bring millions of European students back to school", the EU Commission is going to adopt a report to promote the involvement of the new generations "in education, work and social life". With these words, the EU Executive has announced the documentm which is to be published tomorrow along with a survey by the General Labour Directorate on youth employment and a survey by the Education and Culture DG on volunteering in Europe. The decision has been taken because the problem of unemployment for the under 25s is continuing and is considered too high in many member states, especially in the eastern states. "About one young man or woman out of six within the EU states a report from the EU Commission leaves school too early, and the majority of the 4.6 million unemployed young people cannot find a job in the first six months" of their search. The goal is to combine the efforts of the institutions and the EU projects to address youth unemployment and support the efforts of each country to increase their educational levels, in the belief that "the national educational systems do not train them to face the transition from school to work". The EU Commission’s agenda includes an international conference, to be held in Brussels today, about the neighbouring policy, while the plenary session of the EU Parliament is going to open in Strasbourg until September 6th.
