SIR EUROPA: FORTRESS EUROPE REPORT, IN AUGUST 243 PEOPLE DIED AT THE EUROPEAN BORDERS (2)

The Fortress Europe report also highlights that "the routes are changing. They are longer and more eastwards", as "confirmed by the rise in the number of landings in Malta and on the costs of Ragusa and Siracusa", in order to "steer clear of Tunisian patrols that can be found up along the Tunisian coast, heading for the Pelagian regions". Also according to the Report, 362 people have been sent back at the borders in August, which "is no news. Even less if they concern Iraqis or Afghans". "Nobody speaks about it – goes on the Report –, but, in the Italian ports along the Adriatic Sea, an attack against international law is taking place. The 362 people sent back in August in the ports of Bari (190), Brindisi (17), Ancona (153) and Venice (2) are just the tip of the iceberg. Thousands of people are sent back every year, with just few dozens of claims for asylum managing to be submitted to the port authorities".
