SIR EUROPA: COE, CAMPAIGN AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON WOMEN

The fourth regional workshop organised by the Council of Europe on violence against women will be held on September 11th and 12th in Skopje, the capital of FYROM. Special attention will be paid to domestic violence and the role of the institutions in preventing it. The meeting, which is part of the EU’s communication strategy, will bring together experts from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia, FIROM and Turkey. They will discuss the protection and specialist support that the police, the health-care professionals and the social workers give to women in need and the possible synergism and actual cooperation between them. The workshop is part of a broader campaign launched by the Council of Europe to stop violence against women and to ensure help to the victims. It has been estimated that women who suffer domestic abuse are between 12 and 15%. For detailed information about the campaign, visit www.coe.int/stopviolence
