SIR EUROPA: CoE, TO IMPROVE THE ROMANY CHILDREN’S EDUCATION

Developing policies to ensure Romany children will receive a quality education since childhood. This is the proposal of the Conference, organised by the Council of Europe (CoE) and Unesco in Paris on 10th and 11th September, which will be attended by European education experts. They will speak of innovative methods, such as specialist teaching kits, with syllabi that are adapted to the needs of the Romany children with the help of their families. The conference will also host an exhibition on the history of the Romany people, their customs and traditions. According to some estimates, 10 million Romany people live in the geographical area of the CoE. Often the victims of discrimination and injustices, they are socially excluded. This is why the CoE launched the "Dosta!" (Too much!) campaign, which aims at fighting prejudice and promoting the respect of the Romany people. The CoE also opened a website, dosta.org, providing all information about this.
