SIR EUROPA: EU COMMISSION, LACK OF LABOUR, YET TOO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE OUT OF WORK

One of the goals stated by the EU Commission in the document on youth policies is to urge the member states to take some priority actions, such as: "Reducing the number of dropouts and give early school education", "better connections between the business world and education, and improved mobility", "involving the young in decision-making processes and in the assessment of youth policies". Effective proposals submitted by the EU Executive include "commitment to draw up a report on youth every three years, to be published with the participation of the young". It will "describe and analyse the situation of the young in Europe, to gain a better insight of the issues that concern them and improve joint cooperation". A "health strategy" for the new generations should be defined from next year. In addition, the MEPs are going to open "consultations and an impact assessment about volunteer work to prepare one further initiative for removing obstacles and giving actual acknowledgement to skills acquired through volunteer work". MEPs Figel’ and Špidla will submit the document to the young on September 16th during an event which will be held in Lisbon under the Portuguese presidency of the EU.
