BENEDICT XVI: SCHOOL, MATCHING "CULTURAL PLURALISM" AND "SEARCH FOR TRUTH"

” “"Men coming from different cultures may talk to each other, understanding each other apart from space and time distances, for in the hearts of every person there are the same great aspirations to good, justice, truth, life, and love". It is the conviction of the Pope. On receiving in hearing the participants in the Plenary Assembly of the Congregation for Catholic education, the Pope seemed to refer to the "Sapienza" facts, indirectly. In a context marked by an "evident education crisis", he said, the Catholic school, "though being open to everybody respecting the identity of each one, can’t but propose its own educational, human and Christian perspective". Therefore, here is the challenge "of the meeting of religions and cultures, in the common search for truth". According to Benedict XVI, actually, "the acceptance of the cultural pluralism of students and parents is forced to meet two needs": on the one hand, "do not exclude anybody in the name of his cultural and religious belonging", and on the other hand, "once this cultural and religious diversity is acknowledged, do not stop before mere acknowledgement". This – concluded the Pope – would actually mean denying that cultures really respect each other when they meet, because all real cultures are oriented to the truth of man and his good". ” “
