COUNCIL OF EUROPE: CHILDREN TRAFFICKING AND ILELGAL CROSS-BORDER ADOPTIONS

In Europe, the phenomenon of disappearing babies meant for illegal cross-border adoption is growing: the denunciation comes from the Council of Europe, and the theme is in the agenda of the Parliamentary Assembly whose plenary session is scheduled from today to Friday, January 25th, at the headquarters in Strasbourg. The members of parliament of the 47 COE member States will meet at the hemicycle of the Palais de l’Europe. The election of the new president of the Assembly is scheduled at the beginning of the works. He/she will replace Dutch René van der Linden, whose mandate expired. Among the items in the agenda, there are the Lord Russell-Johnston report on the future status of Kosovo, and the note by Committee of Ministers submitted by Ján Kubis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, the current president of COE. Numerous guests will address the Parliamentary Assembly during the week: President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of Georgia Mikhaïl Saakashvili, and President of Albania Bamir Topi. Moreover, there will be the prime ministers of Slovakia, Robert Fico, and Hungary, Ferenc Gyurcsány. The president of Green Cross International, Mikhail Gorbatchev, and President of UEFA Michael Platini are going to take part in it.
