The Church, added the Pope, "fully serves its mission only when it reflects onto itself the light of Christ the Lord and thus helps the peoples of the world along the way of peace and true progress". According to Benedict XVI, "we cannot actually say globalisation is synonym with global order, quite the opposite". Actually, "conflicts for economic leadership and the hoarding of energy and water resources and raw materials hinder the work of those who, at every level, strive to build a fair and sympathetic world. A greater hope, which will make it possible to prefer everyone’s common good to the luxury of the few and the poverty of many, is needed". If there is a great hope, according to the Pontiff, "one can persevere in moderation. If true hope is missing, one looks for happiness in thrill, in un-necessaries, in excess, and one ruins oneself and the world. Then, moderation is not just an ascetic rule but also a way of salvation for mankind". "It is clear by now concluded Benedict XVI that only by choosing a moderate lifestyle, along with a serious commitment to a fair sharing of wealth, can a fair and sustainable order of development be established. That’s why men who cherish great hope and thus possess lots of courage are needed".
