BENEDICT XVI: EPIPHANY, "MEN OF GREAT HOPE AND COURAGE ARE NEEDED"

The celebration of "Christ, Light of the world, and His manifestation to the people" "reminds us of the origins of the history of the people of God, i.e. the call of Abraham": it was said yesterday morning by Benedict XVI at Holy Mass on the occasion of Epiphany. This is the call that "starts God’s great design to make humanity a family, through an alliance with a new people, chosen by Him for it to be a blessing amidst all peoples". "This divine plan – explained the Pope – is still in progress" and "had its height in the mystery of Christ two thousand years ago; the ‘last times’ began then, meaning that this design has been fully revealed and accomplished in Christ but would like to be incorporated in history, which always remains the history of God’s faithfulness and unfortunately also the history of man’s unfaithfulness". Then, the Holy Father highlighted that the Church, "the repository of blessing", is "holy and composed of sinners, marked by a tension between the ‘already’ and the ‘not yet’. (continued)
