(From SirEuropa correspondent in Esztrgom Hungary) The plenary assembly taking place in Hungary says the umpteenth ‘no’ to research on embryo stem cells. During this morning’s session, mgr. Robert Zollitsch, archbishop of Freiburg and president of the German Bishops, gave a report on bioethical issues in which he insisted that "the Catholic Church as a whole rejects research on embryo stem cells, since it is based on the killing of embryos". "In the area of the defence of life he recalled , the Catholic Church has always been very committed. However the opportunities offered by scientific research on human embryos have opened new areas in which human life must be defended. From this perspective, research on stem cells from human embryos is a particular problem, since these cells come from the death of embryos".
