The "Papal Day 2008" is being celebrated in all dioceses of Poland on Sunday, 12th October. It is an initiative with spiritual, cultural and social character. Each year, it is addressed to an aspect of the teachings of John Paul II on the subjects of the "family of nations" and the "life of society". Two bodies promote the initiative: the Saint Nicholas Foundation and the New Millennium foundation of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. They set up a series of events during the whole weekend. This year, the theme "John Paul II, educator of the young" will be the central thread. With this choice, said the organizers, "we intend to underline the solicitude of Pope Wojtyla for younger generations" as well as the "trust which the Pope placed in the young, which he expressed during lots of meetings devoted to them". As for the programme of the "Day": an international meeting on the theme "John Paul II, educator of the young" is scheduled tomorrow, with the participation of Card. Stanislaw Rylko, president of the Papal Council for laymen; on the occasion, the "Totus Tuus" prize will also be awarded. On Sunday 12th, Card. Stanislaw Dziwisz will also celebrate a Mass in the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, in Cracow. At the end of the events, the Polish station 1 TVP will broadcast a television message by Benedict XVI at 10 pm.
