IRAQ: THE USA CONDEMN THE ATTACKS AGAINST THE CHRISTIANS OF MOSUL

In a release published yesterday, the US Embassy to Baghdad denounced the recent arracks against Iraqi civilians in the provinces of Baghdad and Ninive, inviting the coalition forces to do all they can to protect them. The news has been relayed by the agency Aswat al-Iraq. "By sending more police (1,000 policemen, editor’s note), some trained by the Multinational Force – reads the US release –, security for civilians will be reinstated in the province of Ninive". As everyone knows, the attacks against the Christians of Mosul have recently escalated. Many of them have moved to the suburbs and several sources speak of families fleeing from the violence and threats of the armed groups. The US Embassy, as reported by the Iraqi agency, praises the Iraqi government for the measures it has taken in the province of Ninive and its commitment to put an end to such horrible deeds, to protect every Iraqi citizen without discriminations. "US delegates are permanently in touch with several groups in the region of Ninive. The humanitarian organisations are coping with the needs of many refugee families, using funds given by international donors and by the USA themselves". In the last few days, the anti-Christian violence in Mosul had driven the patriarch of Baghdad, card. Delly, and other Iraqi bishops to raise their voice, as reported by SIR, for peace and security.
