The reading and meditation of the Holy Scripture, either privately or within communities, will produce two positive effects: "the intensification of Christian life" and "a renewed apostolic impulse in all believers". Those words were spoken by Benedict XVI this morning, while he received the bishops of Ecuador. "The missionary effort he added mostly depend on priests", but also on religious, who "produced many fruits of holiness and evangelization in those lands" by means of their actions. The Pope appreciated the fact that the bishops are actually pledging to involve "all the groups, movements and people of your diocese in a wide and generous vocational pastoral, arousing the passion for the figure of Jesus and the great ideals of the Gospel in the youth". "This effort stated the Holy Father should be made very carefully, paying attention to the selection and the intellectual, human and spiritual preparation of seminarians". Moreover, in this historical time, went on the Pope, "the Church in Ecuador needs a mature and committed laity. By means of a solid doctrinal training and a deep inner life, this laity should live its specific vocation: illuminating the whole human, social, cultural and political reality with the light of Christ".
