(From our correspondent SirEuropa in Esztergom Hungary) "Maintaining a network of people that could analyse and debate the teaching of Catholic religion in European schools." This is one of the recommendations expressed by the delegates of the European Churches as it is shown in a survey on the teaching of Catholic religion in European schools conducted by the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) in cooperation and with the financial support of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. The survey was carried out between January 2005 and November 2007 and was presented today during the plenary assembly of the CCEE in Esztergom (Hungary). The idea of a research was brought up in Rome by the national service for the teaching of Catholic religion (IRC) at the end of 2005. The aim was to monitor the teaching of Catholic religion in the European schools. The CCEE had supported the initiative so that all the European Catholic Churches could cooperate. Besides "capturing" the different situations in the European countries, the survey was aimed at leading Christian communities and national Churches towards a common analysis of the teaching of religion and collecting their point of view and their experience.
