Who are the recipients of the EU funds? What are the principles used to allocate them to each EU region? How is the budget of the 27 member states spent? Through the new "Financial transparency system" unveiled by the EU Commission, "for the first time ever, people will have direct access to the EU funds, managed" by the EU Executive and by its agencies. Such tool is the website http://ec.europa.eu/grants/search/ where one can make a query by industry, amount, beneficiary’s name or budget line. A website that is still under development already contains 28 thousand types of searches to find the recipients of the EU funds in the area of education, transport, energy, agriculture or culture. According to Dalia Grybauskaitë, Commissioner for financial planning and budgeting, "across the world, the public administrations that give direct access to their own accounts are very few". The initiative is part of a broader operation transparency, that the EU has been carrying out for years. "I am sure adds the Commissioner that this system will also fuel the current debate on the best possible use of the EU budget".
