"The ‘outrage’ and the ‘foolishness’ of the Cross specified Benedict XVI in this morning’s catechesis lie in the fact that, wherever there seems to be only failure, pain, defeat, it is precisely there that there’s all the power of the unbounded Love of God. A love that is revealed unexpectedly and seemingly against the traditional standards by which one interprets God’s actions". The Cross "reveals all the power of God, which is different from human power commented the Pope , and especially His love"; accepting it "means working a deep conversion in the way one relates to God". "On a subjective plane in the life of the believer pointed out the Pontiff , the theology of the Cross is translated into the statement that with faith one crucifies oneself to partake of the death and resurrection of Christ. The Cross can thus really become the sign that God loved us down to the end, and we will reject the temptation, ever present in us, to shy away from the ‘weakness’ of God’s way". In fact, according to the Pope, "it is only in the total acceptance of the weakness of the Cross that all the strength of God’s Spirit can appear to us". (continued)
