Ever-increasing "commitment to growing in holiness and proactively partaking of the mission of the Church". This was asked by Benedict XVI of the members of the Board of Governors of the Knights of Columbus, who are in Rome for their traditional pilgrimage. The Pope recalled that this "was the view that inspired the Knights of Columbus as a brotherly association of Christian lay men and that keeps finding its special expression in the charitable deeds of your Order and in effective solidarity with the Successor of Peter in his ministry for the universal Church". This is a clear reference to the fund "Vicarius Christi" that the knights have given the Holy See "for the needs of God’s people in the world".
