(From SirEuropa’s correspondent in Esztergom Hungary) "The contribute given by the Catholic Church to a Europe that intends to place at the centre of its future the dignity of the human being, the holiness of life, religious freedom, the common good, peace and international solidarity has become richer and more relevant". This is how mgr. Adrianus van Luyn, bishop of Rotterdam, president of the Dutch Bishops Conference and president of Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences), judges the work of the plenary assembly of the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccee), which, after yesterday’s meeting with the President of the Republic of Hungary, is about to end in Esztergom/Budapest. "The human, cultural and spiritual values of our continent, fuelled as they are by the Christian faith added mgr. van Luyn , are not abstractions or biased ideas, but universal and inalienable references, not least for any economic, social and political decision that aims to respond to the expectations of every man and of all men. For Europe, this also means overcoming any internal selfishness to accomplish within itself and point out to the world an alternative to the selfish principles of exclusion". "The common good concluded the president of Comece should not be an abstract word for Europe either, and Christians are the first to be called to translate it into an effectiveness that is not just material".
