VATICAN: DOCUMENT ON THE PSYCHOLOGY AND TRAINING OF PRESBYTERS SUBMITTED (3)

"One cannot forget that unsuitable people, with relational as well as sexual-affective inconsistencies, cause negative feedback for the Church, and thus, for believers, thus becoming an obstacle to the meeting with Jesus, and not a bridge. However, above all, one cannot forget that then, later on, they live the ministry as a burden, to such extent as «to compromise the relational and affective balance»". Those words were spoken at the Vatican, this morning, by Father Carlo Bresciani, consultant of the Congregation for Catholic Education, during the presentation to the press of the document "Guidelines for the use of the pychological competences for the admission and the training of candidates to priesthood". According to Father Bresciani, "the intervention of the psychologist will be meant to encourage «a higher command, not only of one’s weak aspects, but also of one’s human and spiritual powers; in this way, one will be able to donate oneself to God with due awareness and freedom, within responsibility towards oneself and towards the Church»".
