ECONOMY: FINANCIAL CRISIS, THE "RECOMMENDATIONS" OF THE EU PARLIAMENT

The instability of the financial markets bursts into the EU Parliament as well. The assembly will be holding a plenary session again in Brussels on 8th and 9th October, with two financial items on the agenda. One is a discussion between the MEPs and the delegates of the EU Council and EU Commission in the run-up to next week’s summit, which, as well as addressing the future of the Lisbon Treaty and the immigration and asylum file, will linger on the possible measures to be taken to protect savers, families and companies from the collapse of the stock exchanges and from financial depreciations. The floor will also present the results of the Ecofin meeting, which is under way in Luxembourg. Secondly, the floor will discuss a report, signed by MEPs Van den Brug and Daianu, which "urges the EU Commission to propose laws to update the financial regulation and supervision systems, so as to tackle the new systemic risks" and "secure financial stability". Parliament will also give some recommendations to the EU Executive.
