This morning’s session pointed out the need to make the Scriptures more accessible to the devotees, making their translations simpler. Exegetes and theologians are called to join forces and scan the Holy Scriptures they said , but only in the Eucharistic celebration is the unity of the Word truly revealed. The issue of the homily is at the heart of the matter; the assembly proposed to use a general homiletic directory, a sort of more systematic teaching, to be developed by the Holy See for the priests. But a joyful announcement and a preaching that will not tire people out and will not "send people to sleep" are also needed. Then one must make sure that the Word does not lose its flavour, does not become uninspired or even meaningless. Then, the assembly recalled that the exercise of authority is called to become, at all levels, a participation in God’s provident government, avoiding any form of authoritarianism, even within the Church. In addition, this morning, the 8 members of the Commission held their first poll for the final message of the Synod, which will be followed by more polls. Benedict XVI appointed chairman of the Commission archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Papal Council for Culture, who will be assisted by a deputy chairman. The 8 members must be representative of the five continents.
