The presence, at the Episcopal Synod, yesterday, of Shear Yesuv Cohen, head rabbi of Haifa, "is a very important step in the dialogue with Hebraism". This was said to SIR by father David Neuhaus, secretary general of the Vicariate, which, within the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, deals with the Catholic communities of Jewish expression. "We are glad for this speech states the Jesuit father who is also at the head of the Catholic community of Haifa which will help implement dialogue and, along with it, that mutual acquaintance that is essential to tackle any unsolved problem". One of these is certainly the figure of Pius XII, whose beatification the rabbi said he is against. "As to Pius XII, we must admit we have a misunderstanding here which must lead to a better knowledge, even of history. Great progress has been done in the area of religious sensitivity, but a lot remains to be done from a historical perspective. We have gone a long way in the road to dialogue, but we have, in front of us, the urgency of listening to what history still has to say about the relations between Jews and Catholics and try to write it together".
