TAIWAN: FROM 9 TO 12 OCTOBER, THE YOUTH DAY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SYDNEY WYD

From today, 9th October, to 12th October, Taiwan celebrates the Youth Day in the archdiocese of Tai Pei, with a calendar of events, including exchanges about life experiences, adoration and prayers of praise, a dramatised Way of the Cross, evangelising work, young people sharing experiences with each other, Holy Mass for and by the young, workshops. The Commission for Evangelisation of the Regional Bishops Conference of Taiwan wanted to conform to the theme of the XXIII World Youth Day, held in Sydney last July: "You will have strength from the Holy Spirit which will descend onto you and you will be my witnesses". Mgr. Thomas Chung, president of the Youth Group of the Commission for Evangelisation of the Regional Bishops Conference of Taiwan, sent a letter to the young people of Taiwan to ask them to attend the Youth Day. "I sincerely invite you, along with the Holy Father – he wrote –: to start a path of life in the Holy Spirit, by taking part in our Youth Day". The director of the youth pastoral and evangelisation of the Regional Bishops Conference of Taiwan urged the young Catholics to carry out an effective evangelisation work "to overcome the barriers of the Church, being the witnesses of the Lord in society".
