The Catholic-Jewish dialogue "may become a sign of hope and inspiration for this restless world". It was written by Jews and Catholics in the final declaration made known today, at the end of the 20th International Catholic-Jewish Liaison Committee meeting (ILC) of Budapest, from 9th to 12th November. "In recent decades it is written in the text Catholic-Jewish dialogue has been marked by a growing friendship and mutual understanding which have enabled us to build an atmosphere of trust and confidence". "The new spirit of friendship and caring for one another may be the most important symbol that we have to offer to our societies". "Indicative of this" it is further written in the note was the "first ever" gathering of a group of young leaders, Catholic and Jewish, which took place a few days before the Committee meeting. The plenary sessions of the meeting were two: the first one devoted to "the role of religion in civil society"; the second one to the state of the Catholic-Jewish dialogue in Eastern Europe. In the work groups, they talked about common projects, including an initiative of trilateral dialogue involving also representatives of the "Moroccan Mohammadian League of Muslim Scholars".
