In a press release issued today, the bishops of the European Community on a meeting held in Brussels for the COMECE Plenary Assembly from 12 to 14 November have launched an appeal to the Members of the European Parliament calling them to "take their responsibilities" and to include "the protection of Sunday in the Working Time Directive to be voted by the EU Parliament by mid-December." In the press release, the COMECE reaffirms that "a work-free Sunday" is "the foundation of the European social model" and offers "the opportunity to reconcile work and family life."
