A moderate lifestyle as a response to the financial crisis based on values. It is the proposition that COMECE bishops (Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community) put forward in a press release issued at the end of their Autumn Plenary Assembly which was held from 12 to 14 November in Brussels. "The bishops," reads the press release, "must acknowledge with regret that the financial crisis has exposed a deeper spiritual crisis and a wrong system of values" which are becoming more and more subordinated to the logic of profit. Therefore, the European Churches are calling for "moderation", a "central virtue" which represents the key to this lifestyle change." Christians are called to show that "moderation can be synonym with life quality and happiness for it helps us understand what is essential and what is superfluous."
