Going back to the EU Directive on Working Time (laying down a max work time of 65 hours a week), Johanna Touzel, spokesperson for Comece, explained to SIR: "An excessive extension of working hours would still go against the dignity of man and of workers", so it would go in the opposite direction to finding a work/life balance, "on which the bishops have insisted for some time" and which means not to ask people to work during the holidays. During the plenary meeting, Bobby McDonagh, permanent representative of Ireland to the EU, explained the situation in his country after its vote against the Lisbon Treaty. In this respect, mgr. Piotr Jarecki, deputy president of Comece, explains to SIR: "We think the situation in Ireland is fairly contradictory". Public opinion actually seems to be "still very much in favour of the European Union", but the result of the referendum was quite different. "There were also talks of a lack of objective information on the EU on the mass media" of the island, which seems to have helped the Euro-sceptical positions at the referendum.
