The meeting held in Brussels on product safety (clothing, food, toys, electric and electronic equipment …) "will deepen according to commissioner Kuneva cooperation between the 27-EU, the United States and China". To have an idea of the importance of the "current challenge" which concerns 500 million European citizens-consumers, Kuneva explained that "80% of the toys sold in the shops and supermarkets of the EU member states are made in China" and that "foreign trade will increasingly grow in every area" as a result of economic globalisation. The EU and China signed a memorandum of understanding "to extend bilateral cooperation in the enforcement of product safety regulations and improve the exchange of information on food safety". Finally, Kuneva opened the EU Product Safety Week, which will last until November 21st, with many events and happenings, most of which will be held in Brussels.
